2010 Newsletter
*The year was restarted in June of 2010. as
the newsletter has changed.
This letter was sent to service organizations on December 25, 2011. It was requested that we post it here:
Merry Christmas to all...Happy Holidays.
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday today...I just wanted to send
along my special thanks to everyone who has helped a soldier, a sailor,
a marine, an airmen, a Coast Guardsman...as well as their families, our
veterans and retirees who are among the 35,000 people who have visited
USO Las Vegas this year.
The holiday season is for reflection, being with family, and giving of
gifts to show how much we care about one another. However, for the last
13 months our visitors have been given the daily gift of your kindness,
compassion, caring and general thankfulness for what our troops give to
our Country every day.
On behalf of Marianne and myself...please let me thank you for all you
do. Our first year of operation was amazing and I can't wait for the
next year when we will do even more amazing things.
I also wanted to send along a message from our President, Sloan Gibson.
He is far more eloquent than I when it comes to thank you for what you
do so I thought I'd pass his messsage along because it is so
appropriate for today.
To the USO Family:
Happy Holidays! Thank you for everything you have done this year to lift the spirits of our troops and their families.
As you know, the holidays are an important time for the USO. Many of
our troops and families are traveling, while many others are separated
because of deployments. You are especially busy, delivering an extra
touch of home during the holiday season. Thank you.
Over the last year, I've had the opportunity to see, first-hand, the
great work you do. Whether in the US, Europe, Pacific or Southwest
Asia, USO staff and volunteers work tirelessly to lift the spirits of
our troops who are far from home.
As we close out 2011, and we see the changes our military is
experiencing, one of the things that I am most proud of is our ability
to adapt and change. As the final troops come home from Iraq this week,
we can be proud of our role supporting them during the war. And in
Afghanistan, we have adapted to support that mission with nine
locations throughout the country. Whether we are opening or closing
centers, creating new and innovative programs, or providing an extra
touch of home at the holidays, we are there, focused on our mission.
Thank you for all that you do for our men and women in uniform and their families, not just at the holidays, but every day.
Warmest wishes to you and your family this holiday season.
Sloan Gibson
President
